NMR is introducing a new annual award for its HerdWise customer who has, in the past 12 months, shown a particularly proactive approach to best practice Johne’s management in their herd.

The Award is open to all NMR HerdWise customers. These dairy producers are screening individual cows quarterly for Johne’s disease using milk samples taken at routine recordings.

“This new award is not focussed on highlighting herds with low levels of Johne’s disease but on identifying those who have adopted a comprehensive control strategy specific to their herd’s requirements,” says NMR’s development manager Nicola Hares. “We want to raise awareness of Johne’s and demonstrate the importance of using Johne’s management strategies on farm to help combat the disease.”

Producers can enter the competition by completing an entry form available from NMR Nicola’s Hare on Entries close on May 15, 2015.

Four finalists will be selected and notified by June 1 and their units will be visited by judges Karen Bond, NMR vet and Lyndon Edwards, Chairman of the National Johne’s Action Group who will look at Johne’s management on each farm.

The winner and runner up will be announced at the Livestock Event on July 8, at the NEC, Birmingham. The winner will be presented with a trophy and receive £500 worth of Herdwise vouchers plus a luxury hamper. The runner up will receive £250 worth of HerdWise vouchers. All four finalists will be recognised with a certificate
